What devices does Promptly support?
Promptly is built for iPhone and requires iOS 26 or later. It also runs on iPad (iPadOS 26 or later). Portrait and landscape are supported. There is no Mac app, Apple Watch app, or Android version.
How do I record video while using Promptly?
Promptly does not record video. It keeps your script in view while you record with a separate camera or another device. For a simple setup, place the iPhone or iPad running Promptly close to your recording lens, then start prompting and record on your camera. On another phone, use the Camera app or your usual recording app.
Why does Voice Follow need the microphone? Is my speech uploaded?
Voice Follow listens so the script can move as you speak, then wait when you pause. Speech is processed on this device. Promptly does not store, upload, or sync microphone audio or transcripts. It needs microphone permission and a supported device. First use may download a language model. Pause releases the microphone; Play listens again from the current word.
How do I put the script on a TV?
On iOS 27, connect a TV, projector, or monitor over AirPlay or a cable. Open the prompter with Use External Display on — the connected display shows only the script, and your phone stays the control surface. On iOS 26 a connected display mirrors the phone. Start AirPlay from Control Center, or plug in a cable. Promptly cannot start mirroring for you.
Why doesn’t my remote do anything?
Remotes move the script in Controller scroll mode. Pair a game controller, keyboard, clicker, media remote, or use the volume buttons, then choose Controller. Media remotes wait while Voice Follow is listening. Settings → External Controls lets you reassign actions and open Input Monitor to see what iOS reports.
How do I import a script from Notes?
Share a note or a text selection into Promptly, or use Save to Promptly from the Action menu. Promptly imports text. Then open Promptly to edit or prompt.
Where did a deleted script go?
Deleted scripts move to the Bin in Settings. You can restore them for 30 days. Emptying the Bin or waiting those 30 days deletes them permanently.
Do I need a Promptly account?
No. Sign in to iCloud on the device if you want scripts to sync. They stay on this device and work offline either way.
Why didn’t a change show up on my iPad yet?
iCloud changes appear after a short delay. There is no Sync Now button. Don’t edit the same script on two devices at once — duplicate it first so you don’t overwrite text.
What is Mirror vs Flip?
Mirror is horizontal — for beam-splitter glass. Flip is vertical — for an inverted mount. Use both for a 180° image.
Does it work in landscape?
Yes. Film vertically for Reels and Shorts, or flip to landscape for YouTube. Promptly adapts.
What languages does Voice Follow understand?
Automatic detection reads the script and picks a language — English, German, French, Spanish, and many more. You can also choose a language in Settings. Recognition runs on this device.
